Starting ABA can feel overwhelming. We guide your family through every step, from the first phone call to your child’s first session.

Six Steps to Starting Services

STEP 1

Contact HHAC

Call us, send a message through our website, or have your child’s provider send a referral.

STEP 2

Insurance Verification

We check your benefits, network status, and authorization requirements.

STEP 3

Provide Required Documents

We tell you exactly what your plan needs and help you gather it.

STEP 4

ABA Assessment

A BCBA completes an assessment and develops individualized treatment recommendations.

STEP 5

Authorization

HHAC submits the treatment recommendations to your insurance plan for approval.

STEP 6

Begin Services

We match your family with a clinical team and schedule treatment.

Documents Typically Requested

Requirements vary by insurance plan. Our intake team will confirm exactly what your plan requires.

Physician Referral / Order

  • Signed by the physician or provider your plan requires
  • Clearly requests ABA therapy
  • Identifies the provider where required
  • Dated within your plan’s acceptable time frame

Comprehensive Diagnostic Evaluation (CDE)

  • Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) diagnosis
  • Diagnostic instruments as required by your plan
  • ADOS or an equivalent tool where required

Insurance Information

  • Front and back of the insurance card
  • Policyholder information

Parent / Guardian Information

  • Contact information
  • Custody or guardianship documents when applicable

Other Helpful Evaluations

  • IEP or 504 plan
  • Psychological evaluation
  • Speech and OT evaluations
  • Previous ABA records
  • Developmental evaluations
